Beacon Park Tennis (BPT) is delighted to announce that the refurbishment of tennis courts at Beacon Park in Lichfield is now in its final stages.
So far the site has seen the demolition of old courts, replacement of the fencing, creation of new foundations and resurfacing of the four tennis courts. This was followed by phase two which included the installation of new floodlights to increase the available playing time.
This week (week 11), the construction team working on the project, has been painting the new courts. The lines will, besides four tennis courts, also include three full-sized netball courts.
Additionally, the new courts will offer two courts with markings for Pickleball – one of the fastest growing sports throughout the US and Canada.
Invented in 1965 on Brainbridge Island, pickleball is a sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong and is played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. According to the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) the sport has had 650 percent increase in numbers since 2013. Like tennis, Pickleball is affordable, great for hand-eye coordination for younger children and can be played by anyone, from five-year olds up to ten-year olds.
The countdown to the official opening of the courts via a Virtual Launch will begin soon!
